The cape crusader is no more in Catalonia. For long the national blood-sport, the Catalanian municipal government has moved to outlaw the gory Sunday Corrida that has aroused passion both for and against it. The decision to proscribe bullfighting will only come into effect by 2012, but detractors of the sport celebrate this body blow to the choreographed estocada de muerte – or death knell – as a victory for animal rights activists that decried a national pastime.
