Situated on the Adriatic Sea to the south of Croatia, Dubrovnik is considered to be amongst the oldest cities on the sea coast. Many tourists have been lately attracted to this land and the place is getting more and more popular by the day. In fact, Dubrovnik is having more than a million visitors now. One can reach here either by plane or by ship.
Visit the places in Dubrovnik and go into a historical past. Go to Lokrum which is situated in the Dubrovnik Bay and see the splendid scenic beauty here. With great natural surroundings, this is the place where the ship Richard the Lionheart was ruined and is in a wrecked condition today. Easily accessible from the Dubrovnik bay, the victors who come here enjoy a great ambience and the perfect environmental surroundings. It is best to go around Dubrovnik by foot. The steep streets give you a thrill of being in a different land. Bus tours also are favoured by most of the tourists. Go to Split and also the National Park of Plitvice and enjoy the sights here. Zagreb the capital is around ten hours from Dubrovnik. You can take a day to go here, enjoy the place and comeback.

Dubrovnik fought against Venice and won the battle. In the 15th century, there was lot of development here and the city gained a lot of wealth and excelled in diplomacy. Language and literature was at its best here and the place patronized a lot of poets, physicists, painters and mathematicians.
Dubrovnik is a combination of Laus and Dubrava. In the year 1667, there was an earthquake here and the city underwent a lot of destruction. It had to be reconstructed. This is how there are today, two harbours here on either side of the isthmus. The state of Dubrovnik has been existing since the 14th century when it got liberated and also succeeded in doing away with slave trade in the 15th century. Liberty was given the topmost priority here.
While here you could also see, the Bell tower, the Rector, the Roland’s Column and plaza’s Sponza. There were lot of bombings here in the years 1992 to 1995 and many buildings were damaged. All these have been repaired today, and you can visit them and look for the telltale signs of a past war.
